Sindh Law and Parliamentary Minister Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmed said the opposition had lost interest in the ongoing session of the Sindh Assembly as they had requisitioned the session without doing homework on issues of common interest.
He was addressing a joint press conference in the provincial CM's chamber after the prorogation of the ongoing session, which was requisitioned by the opposition.
Others who joined him at the press conference were Irrigation and Power Minister Nadir Akmal Magsi and Planning and Development Minister Shoaib Bukhari.
Iftikhar Ahmed said the session was requisitioned by the opposition on a 14 days' notice, but the government convened only after 13 days of the notice.
He said the provincial government was in the impression that the opposition had some private bills or issues that pertain to the welfare of the people, adding: "We thought that if the opposition is coming up with bills of public interest we would also participate in it and support it, but it did not happen."
The provincial law minister said instead of coming up with something concrete or private bills of public interest the opposition decided to ignore the normal procedure of taking up a discussion, proposed to suspend all proceedings and take up the substantive motion they had preferred only two days ago.
He said the rules of procedure demanded seven days' time before taking up substantive motions, adding: "In this case the substantive motion could not be taken up. At the same time the requisitioning of the session has been done without identifying any agenda."
Iftikhar Ahmed said the treasury had accommodated the opposition after going out of the way.
He said when the opposition requisitioned the session earlier; it had indicated the agenda. It was to discuss the gruesome murder of MPA Abdullah Murad of the PPP, he said, adding: "We call the session and discussion on slain MPA Abdullah Murad continued for 21 days. We also participated, and reached some conclusion as the debate was concluded in a manner of understanding and accommodation for each other."
He said this time the requisition of the session seemed without any agenda.
