The WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, Dr Hussein A. Gezairy, will discuss matters related to polio eradication with Sindh health department authorities, including CM's Advisor on health Faisal Malik Gabol, and Sindh Health Secretary Ashiq Hussain Memon.
The discussion would be held during his brief stop over here on Thursday evening on the last leg of his five-day visit to Pakistan, said sources in WHO Sindh office here on Wednesday.
The WHO representative to Pakistan, Dr Khalif Bile Mohammad, and other senior functionaries of WHO-Sindh were said to be also present on the occasion.
The WHO director had been to Islamabad to attend the inaugural and concluding sessions of the inter-ministerial meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) of science and technology ministers.
He also attended a meeting presided over by Federal Health Minister Mohammad Nasir Khan in which matters mainly relating to polio eradication and improvement in Routine EPI coverage were discussed.
The very meeting was attended by all provincial ministers, secretaries and directors-general of the four provinces as well as the federal government. Relevant programme managers of the federal and provincial governments also attended the session.
Dr Gezairy during his stay in Pakistan also delivered a key-note address to the participants of the OIC meeting on regional co-operation in biotechnology at Bhurban. This was besides, attending a meeting of the executive committee of the Network of Academics of Sciences in the OIC countries.
He also called on the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, and thanked him for his support to the polio eradication initiative.
