Senator Ilyas Ahmed Bilour, President, India-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called upon the governments of India and Pakistan to promote peace and harmony in the region for the prosperity and welfare of the people.
In a statement issued there he said that only peace and harmony should prevail in relations between India and Pakistan so that the business community of the two countries could work for the economic development of the region.
This is essential to help the majority of the population in coming out of the abject poverty, he added.
He also welcomed the decision for a cease-fire on the line of control in Kashmir.
Senator Bilour welcomed the current move towards normalisation of relations between India and Pakistan and hoped that the proposed meeting of President Pervez Musharraf and the Indian Prime Minister in New York will be helpful in accelerating the movement towards peace and harmony.
He appealed to the political leaders of the two countries to help in the normalisation of bilateral relations as the people don't want any more wars.
They don't want to live always in fear, they shun war-mongering and want to see amicable settlement of all bilateral disputes.
