Punjab Law Minister Mohammad Basharat Raja speaking in a function held under the auspices of the Punjab Assembly Press Gallery Committee on Saturday, said under the explicit instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Ch. Pervaiz Elahi, the culture of taking along opposition for the cause of democracy was candidly being promoted.
Applauding the role of opposition in legislation of bills in the Punjab Assembly, the minister averred that they too had accommodated the process fully well, saying the treasury benches had also aided opposition in passing certain amendments to bills passed in the Assembly.
He said the present government also supported private members in Punjab Assembly legislation process and supported them in passing of certain bills presented by them.
He asked the press to put forward correct reporting in their publications and this would ultimately strengthen democracy in the country.
Mohammad Basharat Raja responding to a demand of Press Gallery President Najam Wali Khan for framing some sort of assistance in education of assembly procedural laws for journalists, said his department would gleefully forward that assistance.
Responding to a submission of Lahore Press Club (LPC) President Arshad Ansari and other journalists for finalising scheme of journalists of Lahore, the minister promised to help them in the matter.
Iftikhar Agha, Secretary Press Gallery presenting demands for the cause of journalists thanked the guests on the occasion.
MPA Malik Ahmed, Chaudhry Zaheer, Bashir Bhatti MPA and a large number of journalists were present on the occasion.
