Incidents of car theft, daylight robberies, mugging, kidnapping for ransom, murder etc are all on the rise in Pakistan's financial capital, Karachi. Whatever the political compulsions of the government, this is an unacceptable state of affairs.
Its claims of good governance are hollow, because all the indicators are wrong. It does not mean that the law and order situation, in the rest of country is normal. Things have gone bad all over.
The deterioration is accelerating to a chaotic level. The gap between rich and poor is alarmingly wide. Poverty in the absolute sense has risen.
Inflation in terms of cost of pulses, wheat, cooking oil, housing has gone up by over 80% in last four to five years. This inflation affects the common man and is cause of frustration.
Unemployment amongst the poor and lower middle class has driven many to commit suicide. Those who promised to deliver good governance have announced a cabinet comprising 62 ministers till the last count.
This does not include the list of parliamentary secretaries, advisers to ministers etc, which are yet to be announced.
