Sindh Food and Agriculture Minister Arif Mustafa Jatoi has said that Rs 7.55 million of sugarcane growers' dues is outstanding against three mills for the crushing season 2004 for which settlement efforts were being made.
In a written reply to a question the minister gave details of payment to growers by the mills and outstanding in need of settlement.
He said that Rs 989,439 was outstanding against Digri Sugar Mills, Digri, Rs 2.503 million against Najma Sugar Mills, Jhudo, and Rs 4.058 million against Seri Sugar Mills, Seri.
To another question the minister said that laser land levelling is an integrated part of World Bank assisted Sindh on-Farm Water Management Project launched on September 7, 2004. Under the project, 150 laser levelling equipment would be provided to farmers at 50 percent of cost.
For the first year of project, 30 laser levelling equipment will be procured. Total 4000 watercourses will be improved under this project.
Target of 500 watercourses has been fixed for first year; the project will start by the end of this year or beginning of the next.
