The power supply of Sultanabad Co-operative Society, Manghopir Road, will be disconnected by Wednesday for non-payment of accumulated electricity dues since December 2003 amounting to Rs 10 million. A KESC spokesman said on Saturday.
He said that KESC has surveyed the area on news and pictorial reports about massive 'Kunda' connections. The survey revealed that although the Sultanabad Society was a regular residential area having houses up to 240 square yards and about 4,000 premises were consuming direct electricity from the KESC lines.
KESC immediately brought the matter to the notice of area Nazim and the relevant provincial and federal authorities.
The public representatives of the area were also approached to pursue local residents to get proper connections, for the same electrification scheme costing Rs 18 million is also ready for implementation provided the area people apply for new connections, which they had been avoiding since many years.
Finally, in December 2003, KESC installed meters on the 3 PMTs serving the area. The consumption recorded on the three PMT meters totalled over 2.055 million units costing Rs 7.33 million up to May, 2004 while supply to the area was still continuing.
Besides, due to overloading of one of the PMT with excessive hook connections, the PMT has burnt out five times in one month causing a loss of Rs 1.2 million to KESC for replacing five PMTs.
Recently the same PMT has again burnt and its replacement has been made conditional to payment of the electricity dues by the residents.
The KESC management is prepared to provide them maximum possible relief in terms of extra instalments provided the Sultanabad Society residents approach the corporation for the payment of the same.
In case payment of the Dec-May consumption is not forthcoming, KESC has decided to disconnect the remaining two PMTs of the area to prevent shifting of the burnt out PMT consumers on the other 2 PMTs, thus causing them loss as well.
Moreover, KESC is doing maintenance and cleaning work of Civic Centre and Jacobline Grid Stations.
During the maintenance work both the grid station will remain under shut down and consumers of the following areas getting supply form these stations will face temporary interruption on Monday from 9am to 4pm.
