Waseem Haqqie, Chairman, Board of Investment, on Wednesday will launch the UNCTAD's World Investment Report 2004 in Pakistan. The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), which serves as the focal point with the United Nations Secretariat for all matters related to foreign direct investment and transnational corporations, will release the World Investment Report (WIR) for 2004.
After three years of decline in global investment flows, there are signs of revival. With global economic growth improving in 2004, prospects for global investment look bright.
This is particularly the case in services, which make up the largest economic sector in many countries, and which dominate foreign direct investment.
The World Investment Report 2004 looks at the shift towards services and examines the challenges and opportunities that arise for development.
The World Investment Report, which has been published annually by UNCTAD since 1991, covers the latest trends in foreign direct investment around the world and analyses in depth one selected topic related to foreign direct investment and development.
The report carries an analysis of the trends in FDI during the previous year, with special emphasis on the development implications, ranking of the largest transnational corporations in the world, in-depth analysis of a selected topic related to FDI and policy analysis and recommendations.
This year's report presents the latest trends in foreign direct investment and explores the shift towards services, with a special analysis of off shoring service activities.
In Pakistan, Waseem Haqqie, Chairman, Board of Investment will launch the World Investment Report, at a press briefing to be held at 11.00 a. m., on Wednesday, September 22 at the United Nations Information Centre in Islamabad.
