Shahid Nawab, a prominent businessmen and member of the Independent Urdu Group (IUG) in the elections of Karachi Chambers of Commerce and Industry elections (KCCI) has denied his support to the BMA group.
In a press statement here on Tuesday, he said he was shocked to read in a section of the press that he along with his friends had announced support to the BMA in the forthcoming KCCI elections.
He explained that the BMA leaders, during their election campaign, had visited his office and he had, out of courtesy offered them refreshments, being old colleagues in the KCCI's managing committee.
This had been misunderstood and taken as if "I have announced my support to the BMA, which is incorrect," he said.
"At no point, I announced support to the BMA. I am shocked that this courtesy of mine has been converted into a political misuse. I strongly condemn this attitude," he said.
To put the record straight, he said, the decision to support any candidate or group would be taken by IUG leader Jawed Sultan Japanwala in consultation with other members of the group.
