A meeting chaired by Secretary Agriculture Punjab, Arif Nadeem, was held in the office of Cotton Botanist, Multan, to review the cotton crop situation in the province.
Dr Ejaz Pervaiz, Director Pest Warning and Pesticides Quality Control presented the latest status regarding pest incidence, according to a press release issued here on Tuesday.
He said that at present the pest incidence is under control, but the army worm and American bollworm are likely to flare up as their eggs and larvae have been noticed in some fields. Efforts are on to deal with this incidence, he added.
District agriculture officers from all the districts briefed the Secretary about the latest situation of cotton in their areas, terming it satisfactory, and observing that a good harvest of the crop was expected.
They said that to date 3 to 4 percent more cotton bales have been prepared compared to the previous year.
The meeting was also attended by Nasir Khosa, Joint Secretary Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Chaudhry Abdul Ghaffar DG Agriculture and other officers of Research and Extension Wing.
