The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Directorate of Health Services has launched a drive to check and examine edible items in hotels and restaurants.
The drive would be extended to fruit, vegetables and meat markets, Nan shops, bakeries and sweets shops to ensure quality and hygiene of edible items.
A spokesman of the CDA said here on Wednesday that the health services director has directed the staff to raid hotels and other centres of edible items to check poor quality and unhygienic items.
The Health Directorate has collected the samples of 251 edible items from markets and weekly bazaars of G-8 and G-10 sectors and sent them for laboratory examination.
The spokesman said that the Health Directorate has notified municipal bylaws to more than 150 shop-owners and also issued 46 food ordinances.
He said that to ensure supply of clean water the Health Directorate has collected 24 samples of water from tube-wells of various buildings and residential flats for examination.
