Prominent Urdu poet and noted news reader Syed Masood ul Hasan, more prominently known as Tabish Dehlavi passed away here on Thursday after a brief illness. He was 93.
He was admitted to Ziauddin Hospital Intensive Care Unit on Monday.
He leaves behind a son and four daughters besides thousands of his lovers.
He was laid to rest at Sakhi Hasan graveyard amidst tears. His Namaz-e-Janaza was largely attended by writers, poets, intellectuals, journalists besides relatives and friends.
Tabish Dehlavi was born in Delhi in 1911 and passed his BA from Karachi University in 1958.
His first poetic collection 'Neemroz' was published in 1963 which was followed by his other poetic works 'Chiragh-e-Sahra' in 1982, 'Ghubar-e-Anjum' and 'Taqdees' in 1984, 'Ded Bazdeed' in 1989, 'Mahe Shakista' in 1993, 'Dhoop Chaoon' in 1996. Tabish Dehlavi was regarded as an important pillar of traditions of our civilisation.
He started his poetic journey in 1923 and continued to involve in creative work.
Meanwhile, Sindh Ombudsman, Yusuf Jamal has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of Tabish Dehlavi.
Paying rich tributes to the great poet, the Muhtasib said Tabish had no parallel in producing ghazals studded with words with additional creativity and customs.
He said with his death a glorious chapter of Urdu Ghazal had closed down. He said his poetic collections were our valuable asset while his services in the field of broadcasting will also be remembered for long.
