India look for a series-levelling win over host Pakistan in the second of eight-match hockey series at Ayub Stadium here on Monday.
Pakistan edged out the visitors by 2-1 in Karachi on Friday in the first game of the four-match series.
"We are a young side but the boys played with heart and determination and I hope they put up an extra effort to bring us on level terms in the second match," said Indian captain Dilip Tirkey.
The bilateral series is being played after a gap of five years amid a thaw in relations between the two South Asian rivals. Four matches are being played in the first leg in Pakistan followed by another four in India.
For Monday's match India will be boosted by the full fitness of penalty corner striker Sandeep Singh who played for only five minutes in the first match due to a hand injury.
Singh finished as man of the tournament when India won the Asian junior championship in Karachi earlier this year.
Both Pakistan and India fared miserably in the Athens Olympics last month with Pakistan finishing fifth and India seventh.
Still Pakistan started the bilateral series as favourites, having won all the six matches against their arch-rivals this year with the last win coming at Athens by 3-0.
"We are also a young side and once you enter the ground all past achievements are a thing of the past but we still are favourites," said Pakistan captain Waseem Ahmed.
Quetta, the capital of the south-western Balochistan province is hosting an international sporting event for the first time since a one-day international cricket match was played here between Pakistan in Zimbabwe in 1996.
Extra security will be in place for the match due to terrorist activities in the city since last year.
More than 50 people were killed when gunmen opened fire at a Shiite mosque in July last year.
The third match of the Pakistan leg will be played at Peshawar on September 29 and the fourth in Lahore on October 1.
India will host four matches between October 4-10.
