The Election Commission has invited the Pakistan Peoples' Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) for a meeting on September 30 to go through its reservations regarding by-polls in Tharparkar.
A handout of the Commission released on Tuesday invited PPPP Deputy Secretary General Senator Mian Raza Rabbani to explain his party's position vis-à-vis the polls and related arrangements.
Rabbani, in writing, had raised objections, and expressed reservations over certain developments, which led to success of Shaukat Aziz, the then-prime ministerial candidate.
The Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) had fielded D. Mahaish Melani against Shaukat Aziz from NA-229 Tharparkar. Melani was defeated by a huge margin of votes.
One of the main complaints by Rabbani was that the party was not taken into confidence while reshuffling polling stations that resulted in difficulty and confusion for ARD voters.
Rabbani had declined to meet the EC officials on September 28, saying in two days notice, it was impossible for him to make arrangement in this connection.
However, the Election Commission withdrew earlier invitation, acknowledging his contention, and invited him on September 30.
Experts said the meeting would be a sort of formality, having no bearing on the final result.
