Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro has underlined the need of paying more attention towards the social sector. He was speaking as chief guest at the first Excellence Award ceremony of the 21st Century Business Club at a local hotel on Sunday night.
The "Man of the Year 2003 Award" was announced for Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, in his capacity as the then finance minister for putting the country's economy on the right track in a shorter span of time.
It was pointed out that the executive committee of the club would visit Islamabad soon to confer this award on Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
The Excellence Award 2003 for management went to Pakistan State Oil managing-director Tariq Kirmani
Habib Bank Limited president Zakir Mahmood was given the Excellence Award 2003 for finance.
A senior official of the Habib Bank received the award on behalf of HBL president, as Zakir Mahmood is in Washington these days to attend a World Bank meeting.
The Excellence Award 2003 for marketing was conferred on Tapal Tea managing-director Aftab Tapal.
Speaking on the occasion, the Senate Chairman lauded the contributions of the 21st Century Business Club and termed it as a good forum to encourage the people to attain excellence in their respective fields, meet the challenges and hoped that this process would continue.
"We need to pay more attention to the social sector," the Senate Chairman remarked in his brief speech on the occasion.
Founder president of 21st Century Business Club Syed S. Haider presented the welcome address on the occasion.
