Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in a meeting in here on Sunday reviewed the law and order situation in Balochistan. In the meeting at Governor House, the I G Police briefed the Prime Minister on law and order and action being taken by Police to maintain security and peace. The Prime Minister said that law and order is the government's priority as without creating safe and secure environment there could be no development.
He said that Police should focus on pre-emption of crime for which the special branch needs to be geared up keeping in view the nature and intensity of crimes. The creative approach of the Police has to be changed.
The Provincial police should concentrate on intelligence collection to pre-empt the crime. More efforts should be also be made to control the crime, he said.
The PM directed the law enforcing agencies to ensure peace and security to facilitate the flow of investment in the province. No investment and economic activity could take place without peace and security.
The Gwadar port, he said, would be functional early next year. A well planned security arrangement would be essential for smooth operation of the port.
He said law enforcing agencies should focus on training of personnel to acquire high quality professional standard. The PM directed Balochistan government to fill the vacant posts of police officers by appointing suitable men to control and pre-empt crimes.
The PM was informed that adequate security arrangements had been made at Gwadar.
The meeting was attended by Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani, CM Jam Yousaf, Corps Commander, IGFC chief, Federal Ministers Muhammad Rind, Zubaida Jalal and Naseer Mengal. The meeting also reviewed political situation in the province. It was decided to provide adequate professional training to levies' force.
