Jinnah Islamia College of Commerce (JICC), private sector's pioneer institute imparting commerce education in the provincial metropolis has started activities as a part of its silver jubilee celebrations.
To mark the celebrations, a reception was held in honour of students in which Punjab Minister for Management and Professional Development, Sardar Hassan Akhtar Mokal was the chief guest. President Pakistan Medical Association, Professor Dr Dil Muhammad Mirza and Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmad, MPA were guests of honour on the occasion.
Addressing the function, Sardar Hasan Akhtar Mokal said that condition for providing land by the community had already been set as pre-requisite for establishment of school, college or any kind of educational institute.
The decision, which was taken in 1985, was aimed at creating interest of the local people in smooth and successful running of the educational institution, he added. It has been noticed that the institutes set up on government-owned lands are not functioning properly, he maintained.
Highlighting the importance of private educational institutes, Mokal said the private sector has been playing key role in imparting education and thus contributing to the economic development of the country.
He said the opposition putting all the basic problems behind is spending its whole energy to make the uniform as most important issue of the country.
He stressed the need for joining hands for national development without taking political differences into consideration.
Mehr Ishtiaq MPA criticised the government on its policy on establishment of new schools and colleges and said the criterion in this regard is totally irrational. 'In my constituency of 400,000 people, there is only one higher secondary school for boys and girls each.
The Education Department refused to accede to my request for opening new institutes on the pretext that it could only open a school at such place where no school exists within a radius of 20 kilometer.
Chairman of the college, Muhammad Yousaf briefed the participants about the college's achievements. Besides others, Professor Dr Dil Muhammad Mirza, Professor Ikhlaq Shamshi, and Academic Co-ordinator Aisha Naeem also spoke on the occasion.
