The Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Prgmea) has been invited to make a presentation on the generalised system of preferences (GSP) to German Chancellor Schroeder at the Pakistan-German Investment and Business Forum to be held in Islamabad on Sunday.
Prgmea's acting Chairman Tahir Aziz will be making the presentation at the forum, arranged by the Board of Investment (BoI). He told Business Recorder on Saturday that he would emphasise the German leader to support Pakistan in its efforts to get extension of the duty-free status under the GSP for 2005, which is a crucial year for the textile exports from Pakistan after the abolition of textile quotas.
The paper would also deal extensively with the proposed 10-year new GSP scheme (2006-2015) to be introduced by the European Union (EU) and would make a strong case for Pakistan's inclusion in the new scheme on the basis of its efforts against terrorism and drugs trafficking.
The presentation is part of the Prgmea's aggressive diplomatic drive to win the GSP facility for Pakistani textile exports during 2005 and beyond. Meanwhile, Tahir Aziz held a meeting with German Commercial Counsellor in Karachi, and discussed with him the issue. He also sought support of the German diplomat in his drive to get the GSP concession for textile exports.
