The Punjab prisons department on the directive of Punjab Chief Minister has made special arrangements for 'Sehr and Iftar' during Ramazan for all Muslim inmates in the jails across the province.
Punjab Jail Minister Saeed Akbar Khan Nawani told APP here on Sunday that all Punjab jail superintendents have been directed to comply with the instructions and personally ensure provision of quality food to all Muslim convicts and under-trial prisoners, adding that hygienic food should be served strictly in accordance with the jail manual.
He said jail superintendents have also been directed to make adequate arrangements for five-time regular prayers, especially for 'Taraveeh' in jail barracks
He said that IG, DIGs Jails, District Nazims, district and sessions judges, district police officers concerned will pay frequent surprise visits to check the arrangements and standard of food.
Saeed Nawani said that all medical officers posted in the jails have also been directed to check the quality of food-beet, mutton and white meat-before its is cooked, and served otherwise strict action will be taken against the responsible medical officers and jailers.
