Punjab government has constituted a special committee, with Tehsil Nazim Hamid Nawaz, its head, to look into the matter of Shell Pakistan depot at Rehmatabad, Rawalpindi, which was asked to submit a provisional report within 15 days and final report within two months.
According to details, Rehmatabad area of Rawalpindi has became a security risk as a result of the Shell Pakistan oil storage depot and besides causing traffic problems it has became a threat to life and property of the people of this area and surroundings.
People of the area raised the issue forcefully before the Provincial Minister for Law, Justice and Local Government, Muhammad Basharat Raja and appealed him to make necessary measures to shift the depot to some other location. Taking serious note of the concerns of the masses, Basharat Raja asked Tehsil Nazim to submit report.
Tehsil Nazim said that the Tehsil municipal administration keeping in view the concerns shown by masses has issued a notice to Shell Pakistan to shift the depot to some other location. In case of failure, Tehsil government will take straight action against the Shell.
Provincial minister directed the Tehsil Nazim to make sure the immediate action to avert any untoward incident.
A special committee was constituted by the minister, with Hamid Nawaz Raja its head to see the matters related to traffic problems and security of people and submit its provisional report about the security measures within 15 days, while report about the final shifting of the depot would be submitted within two months.
Meanwhile, Tehsil Nazim, Hamid Nawaz Raja, as precautionary measures has directed the Shell Pakistan authorities to make sure that all the oil tankers of the company must park within the premises on depot and not outside. They were also asked to make sufficient security measures and direct their drivers to remain with their vehicles.
