Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance, Dr Salman Shah has said that today Pakistan is on the mend and on the march.
"We have some excellent news on the economic front, having almost graduated from the poverty reduction programme of the IMF in record time," he said while inaugurating the conference on "The new face of HR - Aligning Human Resource to the business to drive results" here on Tuesday.
He said: "At this conference on Human Resources we share the underlying conviction that Human Capital plays a vital role in growth and development of this institution and the country as a whole."
Dr Salman said a large measure of our success so far had been the rapidity with which our available human capital had responded to the strategic imperatives.
The Prime Minister's Advisor emphasised that achievements of human capital should draw attention to the management of that resource to learn and to replicate successes.
He said stories and case studies of transformational change in public and private sector organisations should be shared for learning points and to evolve a "best practice framework."
New human resource tools and practices, he continued, should be analysed with emphasis on enhancing their fit with strategic goals. "We have a collective responsibility to encourage exchange of knowledge between professionals," he added.
He pointed to the HR professionals and leaders from the country and observed that their contributions would carry a fresh perspective and add to our pool of knowledge.
He commended the Pakistan Society of Human Resource Management and Training Networks International for having taken that initiative.
"We need to focus on ways and means to manage ourselves better, individually and collectively," he said adding," We are a country of teeming millions and few competitive advantages in primary or tertiary industries."
Dr Salman Shah pointed out that our strength was in tapping the potential of teeming millions, adding our challenge was to manage their productive potential so that they could compete effectively and that was where human resource management becomes important.
He announced the conference opened with the hope and expectation that that and other such activities and cross-fertilisations would build a stronger foundation for Pakistan.
