The Chief Minister Inspection Team (CMIT) would monitor Ramazan bazars throughout the province to ensure provision of daily-use items at cheaper rates and action would be taken against shopkeepers involved in overcharging and artificial shortage of commodities.
Punjab CMIT minister Colonel Shuja Khanzada (Retd) disclosed this while presiding over a high-level meeting here on Thursday. CMIT secretary and members also attended the meeting.
The minister directed the CMIT members to conduct raids at 'Sastay Bazars' and keep a vigilant eye on the prices as well as quality of daily-use items.
He said he himself would pay surprise visits to Ramazan bazars and if any irregularities were found, strict action would be taken against guilty persons.
He also directed CMIT members to check weights and measures of the shopkeepers.
The minister said that on the instructions of the Punjab Chief Minister, under Ramazan package, provision of atta at concessional rate would be ensured.
If any flour mill supplied substandard atta in the market, the owner of the mill would be taken to task, he warned. Special security arrangements would be made and police force and commandos would be deployed in Ramazan/Sunday bazaars, he added.
