Naoya Ochi has been appointed as head of Japan Bank for International Co-operation (JBIC) operations in Pakistan. He replaces Toru Arai as its chief representative.
The two are now meeting the main clients of the JBIC in Islamabad. They called on the Communications Ministry officials on Thursday that has received bulk of the loans for its projects.
Officials said that $475 million have been given to the National Highway Authority between 1989 to 2001 for its road projects.
During the meeting, federal Communications Secretary Iftikhar Rasheed informed the visitors of future plans and also the commercialisation of the road sector in Pakistan.
Rasheed hoped that it would be possible for JBIC to assist Pakistan in implementing the 199km long Sehwan-Ratodero additional carriageway of the Indus Highway, the Multan-Bewata section of National Highway and also the proposed second Kohat Tunnel for which the government might ask the bank to undertake a feasibility study.
Another project on which Rasheed alerted the Japanese bankers was the Kararo-Wad section of N-25.
