The government has failed to provide basic health facilities to people as at least 10 life-saving drugs are missing from the market.
A survey conducted by a non-governmental organisation, 'The Network for Consumer Protection', shows that there are essential drugs, which are not available at medical stores.
These drugs are being manufactured by leading pharma manufacturers including GSK, Mass Pharma, Cirin, Zafa, Rotex, Searle, Adamjee and others. According to details, missing drugs include Imuran, Amorine, Orbenin, Auropen, Cloxazan, Cloxacillin, Migril, Serenase, Dosik, Maxolon, Adalat Retard, Adipen, Polyfax, Propylthiouracil and Thyroxin Dosaco.
PRESCRIPTIONS OF THESE MEDICINES: Imuran can be used with other drugs to prevent rejection of kidney transplants. It also is used to treat severe rheumatoid arthritis.
Orbenin and Cloxacillin are used to treat mild to moderately severe infections caused by susceptible types of bacteria. This material will be limited to the treatment of infections of the respiratory tract (e.g., sinusitis, bronchitis, tonsillitis).
DOSIK: Haloperidol is an anti psychotic medication. It works by changing actions of chemicals in brain. Haloperidol is used to treat symptoms of psychotic conditions, including hallucinations, delusions, and confusion.
Haloperidol is also used to treat Tourette's disorder, as well as behavioural and hyperactive conditions in children. Haloperidol may also be used for other purposes.
Maxolon treats symptoms of a stomach problem (gastroparesis) in patients with diabetes. It also treats nausea, vomiting and heartburn.
Polyfax Eye Ointment is an anti-infective drug that kills or controls bacterial or viral infections and anti-inflammatory drugs that reduce redness and swelling.
Propylthiouracil medicine is an anti-thyroid agent used to reduce amount of thyroid hormone produced in the body. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by doctor.
THYROXIN: Thyroid medicines belong to the general group of medicines called hormones. They are used when the thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones. They are also used to help decrease the size of enlarged thyroid glands (known as goitre) and to treat thyroid cancer.
ADALAT RETARD: Nifedipine, a calcium antagonist, improves oxygen supply to the myocardium with simultaneous decrease of oxygen requirements. Nifedipine has a vasodilatory effect on the peripheral arterial beds causing a fall in peripheral vascular resistance and an increase in peripheral blood flow.
There is great anger among people about the shortage of these medicines and they have demanded of the government to take prompt notice of it and direct concerned authorities to immediately bring these essential medicines into the market.
