German football association splits presidency

Germany will host the 2006 World Cup under two football association (DFB) presidents after the job was formally split at a weekend congress.
The DFB appointed treasurer Theo Zwanziger as a second president alongside the 71-year-old Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder following a long power struggle.
The two men will share the office for the next two years, a compromise reached in July after Zwanziger allies nearly forced Mayer-Vorfelder out amid criticism of his handling of the DFB, in particular the troubled search for a new World Cup coach.
The 59-year-old Zwanziger will take over day-to-day running of the DFB while Mayer-Vorfelder will remain in charge of international relations and continue as chairman of the World Cup organising committee supervisory board.
