Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Friday contradicted the US State Department statement, which said that explosion at a hotel in Islamabad was not due to short-circuiting. He said that it was not desirable to jump to the conclusion prior to the completion of investigation.
Talking to reporters, he said initial investigations conducted by security agencies maintained that the explosion at the hotel on Thursday was not the result of a bomb explosion but was due to short-circuiting.
When a reporter drew his attention to the assertion of the US State Department that hotel lights at main gate remained on after explosion, the minister said the hotel management has installed an independent system of circuit-breakers and that's why the hotel lights at main gate remained on.
He pointed out that there was no light in the hotel's lobby after the incident.
The minister categorically ruled out the possibility of terrorist act, adding it was sheer accident.
He said agencies are actively engaged in investigation from all dimensions and angles and report to the government will be submitted soon.
Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao also maintained that there was no evidence, whatsoever, of the residue of burnt explosive material at the site.
The minister added hotel engineers and Wapda technical inspector also confirmed that the explosion was solely due to the short-circuiting and there was no evident to the contrary.
