Former Afghan President Burhanuddin Rabbani said that Pakistan and Afghanistan are two brotherly nations having deep-rooted emotional and geographical proximity.
People of Pakistan stood side by side with Afghan people during their years-long struggle against the Soviet occupation and Communist forces, the former Afghan President told Geo television in an interview telecast Saturday. He said the conditions in one country have deep affect over the other so it is imperative that there should be peace on both the sides.
He said the tribal people either in Afghanistan or Pakistan are peace loving adding they were however inspired by the Taleban to indulge in violence. If approached seriously these people have a tradition of settling their affairs through Jirga, he said. He was of the opinion that these people cannot be tamed through military means. Asked when he expects the foreign troops would leave Afghanistan Rabbani said, it depends how earlier the Afghan Police and Army is trained. Once the country has an appropriate organisation of its security forces, the foreign troops would of course leave the land, he added.
