Punjab-Haryana-Delhi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) President Ravi Wig has said that there exists vast opportunities for promotion of trade relations between India and Pakistan in various fields. He stated this during his visit to the Fountain House Lahore, where he visited Professor N.N. Wig Occupation Therapy Unit on Tuesday.
Professor N.N. Wig, who is also former WHO adviser in mental health for the countries of Middle East and North Africa, is elder brother of Ravi Wig. The unit was named after Professor N.N. Wig in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the cause of mental health.
Professor Wig who is a professor emeritus of psychiatry at PGIMER, Chandigarh, started the mental health programme in India before applying it to other countries, including Pakistan.
Ravi Wig maintained that people of both the countries would benefit a lot with the promotion of trade relations between India and Pakistan. The LCCI and PHDCCI have already decided to form a joint committee with six-member each from both sides to promote Indo-Pak trade relations. He added that prospectus of improving Indo-Pak trade relations are bright.
Talking to Professor Dr Haroon Rashid Chaudhry, Honorary Executive Director, Fountain House, Wig further said that cultures of people of both the countries are same and they want peace. He was of the view that misunderstandings and differences between both the governments could be resolved in an amicable manner through talks.
About historic city of Lahore, he said 'Lahore is Lahore', where there is Gulab Devi, Jhankey Devi, Shaukat Khanum and Ganga Ram hospitals. This city has great contribution in medical science for which Lahorites must feel proud.
He stated that Punjab-Haryana-Delhi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) would set up 'water harvesting structure' at Fountain House Lahore. Through this structure rainy water will be re-utilised for drinking purpose. The engineer of PHDCCI will soon visit Fountain House to carry out survey for this plant. He lauded the services being extended by Fountain House Lahore for mentally ill people. He praised the community health programme in Pakistan.
