There is a dire need for focussing on research in education sector to face the future challenges, as Pakistan lacks dialogue between industry and university. The educational institutions should initiate research programmes in accordance with industry requirements.
These views were expressed by LCCI senior vice-president Sohail Lashari while talking to USAID consultant Arthur Bayhan on Wednesday. The meeting was also attended by Vice-president Sheikh Mohammad Arshad and Convenor LCCI Standing Committee on Small and Medium Enterprises Rehmatullah Javed.
Sohail Lashari maintained that the educational institutions should impart practical education to the students. Talking about SMEs he said that SMEs are the most important sector of Pakistan's economy. He said that Pakistan has ample manpower, besides a huge quantity of raw materials in rural areas, which can be used for industrial production.
Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI Vice-President Sheikh Mohammad Arshad said that Pakistan has sufficient workforce but it is suffering only because of lacking proper training.
He urged the USAID consultant to help establish more and more technical and educational institutions in Pakistan. He said that establishment of training institutions is only way to overcome shortage of skilled manpower.
