The Governor's Secretariat for Federally Administered Tribal Area (Fata) has selected two sites for two industrial estates for small and cottage industries in the tribal belt, sources in the Directorate of Industries told Business Recorder on Wednesday.
The two industrial estates in tribal areas were announced by NWFP Governor Iftikhar Hussain Shah in March this year.
These industrial estates would be established in Khyber Agency and Frontier Region (FR), Kohat. The two sites, of 200 acres in Khyber Agency and 80 acres in FR Kohat, have been selected tentatively.
Intikhab Alam, Deputy Director Industries, Governor's Secretariat, Fata, said that a formal presentation to NWFP Governor would be given in this connection.
He said that work on feasibility study has been started and the land would be acquired shortly after its completion. He said that the purpose of establishing of the small and cottage industries units was to encourage private sector for industrialisation and development of Fata and creation of job opportunities in the backward tribal areas.
Intekhab said: "The investors would be allowed to establish any kind of small or cottage industrial unit in these two industrial estates in Fata."
He said that according to the wishes of the NWFP Governor, the industrial units in these two industrial units would be completely environment-friendly.
