The government is planning to constitute a regulatory body for streamlining private educational institutions in the federal capital fulfilling all necessary requirements like charging of fees, qualification of teachers, etc. Official sources informed Business Recorder on Thursday that the education ministry was working on a draft bill to streamline activities of educational institutions.
"We were working on a bill for promotion and regulation of private schools but the restructuring of the ministry delayed the process of legislation," sources disclosed.
It was further informed that the objective of the regulatory body is to bridge the gap between government and private educational institutions.
All private schools and colleges will have to get registration certificate form the regulatory body.
There are numerous private schools, which were running with the permission of the government. Private institutions are charging exorbitant fees without providing quality education, they said.
The government will provide matching grants for the establishment of the educational institutions by the private sector but they will have to provide quality education to students.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) had launched a grand operation against schools, which were established in the residential areas of the federal capital.
However, Federal Education Minister Zobaida Jalal intervened and appealed the CDA to stop operation against these schools.
Now the CDA has also lifted ban on establishment of private educational institutions in residential sectors to promote education.
