Trade among Saarc nations: poor response to KCCI's call for views on sensitive items list
The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has received poor response from its members regarding comments on sensitive items list which Pakistan should draw. The KCCI Special Committee on Regional Trade and Investment had decided to approach all the chamber members to obtain their opinion and make suggestion to help finalise a list of preferential items and sensitive list.
It also approached the foreign missions and Saarc countries consuls general to obtain the list of positive items earmarked by their respective countries for the liberal trade and the enlisted 'sensitive items'. The federal ministries of commerce and industry were also approached with the similar request so that the KCCI committee may formulate its course of action before year-end.
A few high commissions and consulates of Saarc countries intimated that they were waiting for their respective government's response to finalise the sensitive item list.
The Federal industries ministry advised the KCCI to consult the stakeholders to formulate the recommendations. As no concrete and justified suggestions were received so far, and the finalisation of sensitive list is still to be made.
