As many as 48,173 power tripping, caused by kite flying, were recorded in different parts of the provincial metropolis during the first quarter of the current fiscal year. Chief Executive Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) Engineer Mohammad Akram Arain told APP here on Sunday that 45,230 tripping of below 20 minutes and 2943 above 20 minutes were recorded, which disrupted the smooth flow of power supply to people, especially which badly affected the industrial consumers.
He said: "Kite flying-related tripping in the industrial and commercial areas is a national loss as the working of the factories remain suspended unless the supply is restored." The chief executive said that power consumption in Lesco has increased by 8.6 percent and 6.4 percent more connections were given last year, which reflect rapid industrial growth and economic activities in all sectors.
He said as a result of augmentation of system, power failure on account of technical grounds have altogether been checked. He said 18.16 percent decrease in power failure has been recorded.
