There is a dire need for enhancing technical education trend among youth to reduce the skill gap among the young people to alleviate poverty and reduce unemployment throughout the country.
These were the common views of different educationists during an informal discussion with APP here on Sunday on "Role of Technical Education in Poverty Alleviation."
Samina Afzal, an educationist, said it is very essential to secure the political will at the highest level regarding the establishment of technical institutions throughout the country to reduce poverty.
She termed the current education system as a little meaningful for those who were fortunate enough to secure seats in the professional colleges and leaving behind thousands of the students who could not take up the desired courses because of the high merit and few seats.
Saqib Javed, professor in a local university, said there is a need for introducing a counselling system for the parents and the students who would guide them in choosing and pursuing a certain course for their studies after the middle level.
Professor Munaza Talat, an instructor in a vocational institute, urged the authorities to establish more technical institutes for the development and overcoming the scarcity of skilled manpower in the job market requires job-oriented education, which should be introduced in the country at wider level for poverty alleviation, she added.
Rafia Rizvi, an educationist, urged the print and electronic-media to play their role in highlighting the importance of technical education which could help in reducing the poverty.
