Hard red winter wheat basis bids in the US Plains were steady to firmer on Monday, with sluggish country movement noted, merchants said. The Gulf track market was a penny a bushel higher, and the bid in Lincoln, Nebraska, was up 3 cents a bushel, while other locations were holding their basis bids steady.
Problems securing timely transportation remained a problem as did farmer reluctance to part with wheat supplies, merchants said.
"We're still waiting for cars and waiting for people to sell wheat," said one cash wheat trader. Low-protein wheat was seeing a firmer tone than high-protein wheat, he said.
Crop weather remained good for the new winter wheat crop in the Plains states. Updated crop condition reports were to be issued Monday afternoon.
Futures prices at the Kansas City Board of Trade posted solid gains on Friday, settling 5 cents higher, at $3.50-1/4, in the December contract.
The market was likely to see at least a slight setback on Monday, traders said.
