Larkana division exports rice worth over rupees two billion to the Gulf and Far East every year. The area, combined with Sukkur division, has great potential for the export of dates, rice, handicrafts, cotton and vegetables to the Gulf, Middle East and the Central Asian States. This was stated by newly-appointed Assistant Director of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) office in Sukkur, Qazi Shahnawaz. He said the EPB regional office had been reactivated and its Business Support Centre under the export policy would be opened soon.
An e-commerce and export display centre would also be set up at the Sukkur bureau where an area of 900 square-feet had been reserved for the purpose, he added.
The Export Promotion Bureau office at Sukkur was established in December 2002, but for lack of co-ordination and other reasons remained dormant.
The EPB authorities have now decided to run it on a full-fledged scale.
The Sukkur bureau would provide guidance to the rice exporters, millers and farmers of Larkana division to make maximum utilisation of the export potential that exists in the region.
The chambers of commerce and industry of Sukkur, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Larkana and Jacobabad have been asked to join hands with the Sukkur EPB and encourage their members to increase their exports.
