Federal Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Justice Abdul Razzaq Thaheem (Retd) has said that Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab will soon announce the creation of a new district out of Jacobabad. Speaking at Jacobabad Press Club on Thursday, the Federal Minister said circumstances warranted President Pervez Musharraf to remain in uniform.
The challenges facing the country, including extremism, demand that President Musharraf continued to be in uniform, he said, adding the country would make progress by leaps and bounds under his doctrine of "enlightened moderation."
Thaheem said during President Musharraf's incumbency all the outstanding issues within and outside the country would be resolved.
He said any agitation on part of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) against the government would prove a failure, as the assemblies would complete their constitutional tenure.
The minister said there was no provision in the Constitution for the portfolio of a deputy prime minister and rumours in this regard were baseless.
He said local bodies election would be held on time and no administrator would be appointed in the district.
The Minister for Rural Development said Rs 450 million had already been released for the construction of Jacobabad bypass.
He lauded the positive role of Jacobabad journalists towards civic activities in the district, and added that a plot of land for them would soon be provided.
On the occasion, Jacobabad Press Club President Dr A.G. Ansari briefed the minister about the problems being faced by journalists in the district.
