The Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, on Saturday said that should Pervez Musharraf insist on keeping uniform beyond December 31, 2004 the Opposition will not accept him as the president of Pakistan any longer. He conveyed this warning to the prime minister in a meeting the two had at the latter's request. The meeting lasting some 75 minutes took place in the Opposition leader's chamber in the parliament building where NWFP Chief Minister Akram Durrani was also present.
Talking to reporters, Shaukat Aziz described his meeting with the MMA leader 'very good and positive.' The meeting was in line with his promise to hold talks with the Opposition leaders to resolve differences, he added.
The prime minister also extended invitation to MMA leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman and NWFP Chief Minister Akram Durrani to attend the forthcoming National Security Council meeting, as both are members of the Council along with 11 others, including the President, the prime minister, the chairman of joint staffs committee, three services chiefs, chief ministers, and federal ministers for foreign affairs and interior.
The government wants to resolve the differences with the Opposition in a spirit of reconciliation, said the prime minister, adding but Maulana Fazlur Rehman has 'expressed certain reservations.'
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who also spoke to reporters first along with the prime minister and then separately, said the decision to attend the NSC meeting would be taken by the MMA supreme council in its meeting in Karachi next Wednesday.
