The visiting defence delegation of Iraq interim government on Tuesday called on President Musharraf in Rawalpindi and apprised him of Iraq's need for training facilities to its military officers. Led by their Defence Minister, Hazem G S Al-Khuzaie, the six-member delegation underscored the importance of political and military assistance from the Muslim countries in establishing peace in Iraq.
An official handout said the Iraqi minister discussed with the President "matters of mutual interest", making no indication whether there was any discussion on Baghdad's call for Pakistani troops to join the US-led force there or its desire to purchase light weapons.
Musharraf told the delegation that "efforts should be stepped up to bring peace and stability in Iraq and to alleviate the humanitarian crisis there" the handout added.
Minister for Defence, Rao Sikander Iqbal, Minister for Production, Habibullah Warraich and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
During their stay in Pakistan, the Iraqi delegation will be meeting senior defence officials, besides visiting various defence industrial units.
