Security forces on Tuesday captured two foreign militants during continuing operation in a tribal belt near the Afghan border, officials said. One suspect escaped after hurling a grenade which slightly injured four paramilitary soldiers and two civilians, a local security official said.
The two were arrested in the Makin area of South Waziristan district where the army was hunting al Qaeda-linked foreign militants and their local supporters.
A military statement later said security forces recovered two assault rifles, four hand grenades, 400 rounds and a huge quantity of detonators from the two "miscreants."
"Those apprehended have been identified as Abdul Kahhar 26, and Hussain from Tajikistan," it said.
On Monday, the military said 20 militants had been killed over the past two weeks in raids on a Muslim seminary and a camp in the region.
Eight people were killed at the seminary in South Waziristan's Lalejai area while 12 were killed in "hand-to-hand" fighting in a separate raid on the camp in the Karam Manzai Chun Khel area, it said in a statement.
Since March 2004, the Pakistani army has conducted a series of major offensives in South Waziristan believed to be a sanctuary for hundreds of al Qaeda-linked militants.
They slipped into Pakistan after ousting of the hard-line Taleban regime in Afghanistan in late 2001.
