Federal Minister for Water and Power, Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi, has said that the establishment of small hydel power stations could be helpful in meeting the electricity needs in the country in an efficient manner. Chairing a meeting at the office of Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) on Friday, he said that steps were being taken to improve the transmission system.
Jatoi said that he would talk to Punjab government for land needed for the construction of Sheranwala Bagh grid station in Gujranwala. He also eulogised the performance of Gepco and added that it was a result of teamwork.
He said that other distribution companies should follow the suit of Gepco for the improvement of their administrative affairs and make the organisation profit earning entities.
Jatoi urged the Wapda officials to redress the grievances of the consumers by adopting a people-friendly attitude. He also announced to send XEN Kamoke, Muzaffar Khan to Haj for his good performance.
Earlier, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Gepco, Brigadier Saifullah Khalid said that the companies had mopped up revenue of Rs 41 billion in a period of two years. He said that Gepco had been on the top of Wapda's distribution companies in terms of revenue generation.
He said that the electricity demand in the region was on rise. To meet this demand, four new grid stations were being constructed while up-gradation of over-loaded transformers was also in progress.
He said that Gepco had provided electricity to 315 villages during the current fiscal year. He pointed out that the line losses in all the divisions of Gepco had gone into negative zone.
The meeting was attended among others by Chief Engineer, Chaudhary Muhammad Siddique, Manager Customer Services, Amjad Ali Sheikh, Manager Admin Khalid Mahmood Iqbal, Director Finance, Amanullah and other senior officials. Later, Federal Minister for Water and Power, Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi visited Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and addressed its executive committee members.
