Santos port moves 6 million tons of goods

Brazil's main port of Santos moved 6.0 million tonnes of goods in October, up 11 percent from a year ago and a record for the month, with sugar and soyameal leading the way, the Port Authority said on Wednesday. Exports were up 12 percent and imports up 9 percent in October compared with the same month last year.
Latin America's largest port moved 57.5 million tonnes over the first 10 months this year, up 15 percent from the record period last year. Exports in the period were up 20.7 percent while imports rose 5.1 percent.
Sugar was the biggest export, up 11 percent at 1.1 million tonnes in October compared with the same month last year. Sugar exports over the first 10 months of 2004 were up 32 percent at 9.07 million tonnes, Santos port data showed.
Cane ethanol exports shot up 99 percent to 87,344 tonnes for the month compared with a year ago and were up 142 percent between January-October at 786,562 tonnes.
