Punjab Education Minister Mian Imran Masood on Sunday said that the government has removed objectionable chapters from the curriculum containing hatred and propaganda. He was speaking at the 3rd alumni meeting entitled "Liberal Space in Political Culture of Pakistan" held under the auspices of a non-governmental organisation Friedrich Naumann Stiftung.
He delivered a lecture on "Educational Initiatives for a Liberal Pakistan" on this occasion.
Addressing the participants, Mian Imran Masood admitted that there were chapters and words in the syllabus, which contain hatred.
He said that the government is seeking suggestions from all the concerned quarters to compile a curriculum, which can fulfil social, economic, emotional and psychological needs of students to make them able to live in the competitive era of 21st century.
The government is keenly working with the non-governmental organisations for the betterment of education sector and always takes suggestions in its policy decisions to improve the educational standard, Masood maintained.
He said that his ministry is busy in doing research and gives suggestions to the federal education ministry for improvements.
Speaking on the occasion, former Senator Iqbal Haider criticised the continuous intervention of military in politics.
He said that it is not the job of military to decide the values of society. Grilling the government over honour killing and blasphemy laws, he said that these laws would never lessen the miseries of innocent people.
Sharing his views Chairman Liberal Forum of Pakistan, Jami Chandio stressed upon the collective efforts of civil societies, media and other intellectuals for finding out the ways and work for political stability and true democracy in the country.
He also highlighted the intra-state conflicts between federation and provinces. He asked the power holders to give due autonomy and rights to the smaller provinces, which the constitution ensures itself.
