Telecommunication sector would produce about 375,000 new vacancies across the country during next five years, said Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General (Retd) Shahzada Alam Malik on Wednesday. Talking to a private TV channel, the Chairman said that eight billion dollars investment was expected in the sector during next five years. He said that two new mobile companies Warid Telecom of UAE and Telenor from Norway would launch its services within a few months.
The new companies, he said, were developing its infrastructure across the country, which would provide thousands of job opportunities.
The Chairman PTA said both mobile companies would build about 1,000 base-stations, which would create lot of job opportunities.
Other telecom companies of fixed lines would also produce hundreds of new vacancies, he said adding hundreds of manpower would also be inducted in the work of fiber-optic which would be installed from Peshawar to Karachi.
The PTA Chairman said that 2.5 percent employees were inducted in payphone and the number of payphone had been increased from 20,000 to 0.2 million during last six years across the country.
The Chairman said that demand of technical persons in that sector had briskly increased due to speedy development. At present, the new companies were paying about Rs 50,000 salary to a technical engineer who was obtained Rs 25,000 in past, he added.
However, he said, "Pakistan will be able to meet the demand of technical manpower in this sector as we have enough institutions to impart them education and training."
