The chief executive officer Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (Smeda) Shahab Khawaja has said that a strategy is being evolved for enhancing the export of surgical instruments and upgradation of the industry. Talking to Business Recorder at Surgical Instrument Manufacturers Association of Pakistan (SIMA) here on Wednesday he added that the government was considering establishing surgical training institute at Sialkot.
The step was being taken to produce trained and skilled industrial workers for extending technical support to the surgical industry of Sialkot, he added.
Shahab Khawaja further said that Sialkot is a hub of surgical instruments and keeping in view the importance government was making adequate efforts for redressing the problems being faced by the business community engaged with surgical industry besides removing the hurdles that were hindering the export of the industry.
The CEO Smeda said that steps would be taken for providing marketing facilities to the business community in collaboration with Export Promotion Bureau of Pakistan (EBB) aimed at widening the export of surgical instruments. The manufacturers and exporters engaged with surgical industry would be motivated to concentrate on producing electro medical devices, he said.
Earlier, addressing the members of SIMA he said that aim of the visit to Surgical Association was ascertain the problems and difficulties and to find out the ways and means. Shahab Khawaja said that Smeda would extend its all possible support and co-operation to the surgical industry for increasing the export of surgical instruments.
On this occasion various hurdles, which are hindering the export of surgical instruments were discussed in detail. The SIMA chairman Bilal Haider Agha demanded the establishment of Surgical Export Development Board to facilitate the business community as well as highlighted the need of surgical industry.
