As many as 20 Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) motels out of 36 have registered a loss of Rs 7,689,762, during the season. Well informed sources in the PTDC told Business Recorder here on Thursday that the season has not been as beneficial for the PTDC as was expected, despite a record influx of foreign tourists for the participation in the golden jubilee celebration of K-2 and 51st anniversary of Nanga Parbat.
The motels, which showed loss included PTDC motel at Gilgit Rs 1,821,335, motel at Miandam Rs 825,251, motel at Hunza Rs 1,149,580, motel at Ziarat Rs 224,148, motel at Saidu Sharif Rs 224, motel at Panakot Rs 372,470, motel at Skardu Rs 1,700,152, motel at Sust Rs 739,992, motel at Wagah Rs 176,380, motel at Satpara Rs 128,269, motel at Ramala Lake Rs 15,385, motel at Gupis Rs 45,260, motel at Mastauj Rs 164,593, motel at Barseen Rs 737, motel at Moenjodaro Rs 76,309, motel at Birmoglasht Rs 106,218, motel at Khuzdar Rs 31,480, motel at Phandar Rs 65,108, motel at RSF Bahawalpur Rs 45,321 and motel at Khaplu Rs 1,490.
Most of the motels, which incurred losses are situated in such places where there was significant rush of local and foreign tourists during the whole season. It is learnt that mismanagement and lack of professional experiences of the PTDC staff were the main reasons of the loss, despite spending huge money on the advertisement and participation in the national and international tourism conferences.
