The opposition grilled the treasury in Senate here on Thursday on Minister Incharge of Prime Minister Secretariat Sher Afghan's reply stating that an amount of Rs 456.728 million was recovered from military officials while Rs 431.812 million from the politicians by the NAB through plea bargain or on orders of the courts. Senator Raza Rabbani criticised the ruling party saying that they blame the opposition politicians but NAB's statistics proved that military bureaucracy has done more corruption and grossly misused its authority.
In the backdrop of slogans of " Shame, shame" by the opposition Senators on the revelations by Afgan, Senator Raza Rabbani flayed the military official's corruption saying, " military bureaucracy has emptied the exchequer" and demanded that the Sher Afgan must provide the list of military officials from whom the amount was recovered.
Senator Khalid Ranjha also criticised the statement of Sher Afgan saying that his reply is in favour of the politicians.
The opposition Senators also blamed that nepotism and cronyism based interrogation is conducted by NAB.
Sher Afgan, minister for parliamentary Affairs, said that Chief of Naval Staff, Mansoorul Haq, Ghulam Sardar and Barkat Ali were involved in corruption. He said that National Accountability Bureau has given full information on its website concerning all the cases.
Sadia Abbasi challenged the website information and said that there is no exit control list on it.
Ismail Buledi inquired about the allocations to the local governments.
Sher Afgan while answering the question said that in big districts there are at least four Nazims and if there is any weakness in that context that is by provincial government.
He said that at the time of passage of local government ordinance there was no elected government. Funds are transferred by the federal government to district committees headed by DCO and EDO.
Tanveer Khalid inquired about the accountability measures being taken by the Water and Power ministry regarding officials of Pakistan Engineering Board who have abused their powers adversely affecting the efficient conduct of its affairs.
He also questioned the decision of suspension of elected body looking after the affairs of the Institute of Engineers.
Liaquat Jatoi replied that the decision was implemented according to the ordinances and through government of Punjab's notification, on account of massive rigging in elections, gross misuse of authority and misappropriation of public funds.
Buledi decried federal policy of provision of gas to the whole country while the Balochi people remained deprived.
The Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources answered that cost per customer exceeded the set criterion of Rs 0.1 million for the provision of natural gas to Zhob, Loralai, Panjgoor and Khuzdar.
