The volume of containers moved at the local and overseas terminals of Singapore port operator PSA International Pte Ltd rose 16.4 percent in the first 11 months of 2004 from the same period a year earlier. Global container volumes hit 30.24 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in January to November compared to 25.99 million in the corresponding period last year, the state-owned port operator said on its website on Thursday.
The volume of TEUs moved locally increased 14.1 percent in the 11 month period to 18.79 million TEUs, accounting for 62 percent of the total volume handled by PSA.
PSA, operator of the world's largest trans-shipment hub, moved 11.45 million TEUs by volume overseas January to November, up 20.3 percent from the previous year.
Outside of Singapore, it has investments in 16 overseas ports located in Belgium, Brunei, China, India, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Portugal, South Korea and Thailand.
PSA is owned by state investment agency Temasek Holdings Pte Ltd.
