The top leadership of Businessmen Panel on Sunday claimed that they will secure a clean sweep victory in the forthcoming election of Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI). Addressing a news conference at a local hotel here, Tariq Saeed of Businessmen Panel said out of total 79 votes of 'A' Class Association, 77 were expected to cast their vote, and his panel will bag 50 while his rival group will get only 27 seats.
Other leaders of the panel including Jamil Mahboob, Chief of Saarc Chamber, former FPCCI President Iftikhar Ali Malik and candidate for the office of President Ch Muhammad Saeed and a number of other leaders were also present. For A class, his panel has foreseen to get 25, out of 31 seats from Lahore, 3 out of 7 from Islamabad and 22 of 39 from Karachi, he claimed.
Businessmen Panel has a clear edge over its rival panel in the race that will start from 14th of this month with the election of A class, he said.
"We are making such claims on the basis of commitment of our voters who will enable us in securing a comfortable victory in A class," he said, adding in case of B class the situation was also in favour Businessmen Panel.
Tariq Saeed claimed that Businessmen Panel has the support of majority of chambers of Punjab, NWFP and Balochistan. Out of 6 NWFP chambers three were on back of Businessmen Panel, he stated. He further claimed that besides the slot of President of the Federation, Businessmen Panel would also secure all seats of vice presidents.
He said polling for A class election will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2004 while 23rd of December will be the day for B class poll. Final round will take place on 27th of December when polling will be held for election of the president of the federation.
Result will be declared in the general body meeting on 30-31st and the new body will commence working from 1st of January 2005.
Commenting on the allegations levelled against them by their rivals, he said Businessmen Panel will not make counter allegations as its leadership did not believe in politics of confrontation. "However if necessary we will give them reply after completion of the election process." If voted to power, Businessmen Forum will visit all the chambers across the country, including those who are opposing us in election as we believe in politics of consensus and want to settle differences on negotiation table," he said.
