Some 26 technology centers are being set up in different parts of the country with the financial and technical assistance of Japan. "These facilities are being set up in line with the assistance offered made by Japanese government to Pakistan during President Pervez Musharraf's visit to this East Asian country about two years ago," Federal Minister for Industries, Production and Special Initiatives, Jehangir Khan Tareen told APP. He said that these centers are being set up on the pattern of Pakistan Industrial and Technical Assistance Centre (PITAC).
He said that the PITAC was being restructured and its management would be handed over the newly established company, Technical Upgradation and Skill Development Company (TUSDC).
Tareen said that Industrial Parks were set up in different parts of the country like Korangi (Karachi), Port Qasim (Karachi), Peshawar and Balochistan.
Talking about government's special initiative for the improvement of watercourses in the country, he said a project involving a total cost of Rs 666 billion had been initiated for the improvement of 87,000 watercourses across the country.
He said that Project Management Units (PMUs) had been set up in all the four provinces for the effective execution of National Project for the Improvement of Water Courses (NPIW). He said a media campaign would soon be launched to make the people aware of project's significance.
